What is updowner.com?Updowner.com monitors, collects and compiles web statistics from around the word. It also presents some information about sites. With updowner.com you can see what has changed on the Web Trends recently, get the latest statistics for requested sites and find out how your site handle the competition.

Updowner allows to check some parameters and their changes within a given time. You can also check changes of websites trends, relatively to other sites and diffrent periods of time. Updowner also presents the site content and promote it.

Please note that all updowner.com statistics are estimated and show the approximate values and trends changes.

What is Updowner search engine, how does it works and how can I find my site?In order to use Updowner search engine you have to use form placed on the top area of the page. Just type the phrase that you are interested in click search.

Search engine works in two ways. Firstly, when searching by phrases, the result gives websites that most closely correspond to the entered phrase. Secondly, it allows to find a specific site by typing its domain. In this case the result is detailed information about this site.

What are "new" and "jump" icons next to the site names?The "" icon indicates that the site is new - it exists in Updowner system for less then 3 months.

The "" icon indicates that the site reported a big growth in the traffic reach parameter recently.

How can I create user account and why do I need it?Creating an user account is very easy. In order to set up the account, you have to fill out the registration form and send it. After that you will receive on your mailbox the confirmation message with verification link. To activate your account you will have to click confirmation link and if everything is ok, you can than log in to the system.

Loging to the Updowner system requires information given during user registration process. When you are logged in, you are allowed to change some account information, register sites, block it or edit som of its content.

How can I authenticate and register my site on Updowner?Site registration requires its authentication in order to verify that you are the owner of the site. There are two ways to do that:

• Verification file
After log in, download verification file and place it in the highest-level directory of your site. You can use one verification file for all your sites. Don't change file name or file content. It should be available for the browsers.

• Meta tag Place a meta tag to the head section of your site. Meta tag structure should be:
<meta name="Updowner-verification" content="e2edd8f06990fe9ecf66084af08bb450">. You can use one meta tag for all your sites.
After log in you can copy it from your admin panel.

After that you have to just type the domain name into the field and send the form. If verification is ok, the site will be shown in your account.
If site already exists on Updowner statistics, registration will proceed immedietly and from now on you will be able to manage your site. In other case (if your site is not listed in the statistics), you have to wait several hours (max 48h) before it will be checked and added to the system.

The Updowner system also checks verfification during site editing or blocking.

Why can't I register my site?There are few reasons why you can't register your site.

• The most common verification problems. During registration process, Updowner system tries to connect with the site in order to check if there is a verification file on site server or meta tag in site HTML. If there are any problems with connection, or unique verification code was changed, site will not be registered. Time in which Updowner tries to connect with your site is limited, so if connection with your site is very weak, it can cause registration failure.

• You cannot register site, if it's already registered.

If you cannot register your site and you are absolutely sure that you did everything correctly, don't worry, just conntact Updowner admin.

How can I block my site from showing on Updowner?You have few methods to block your site from Updowner listing:

• Register your site with us.
If you have registered your site, you can block it in your admin panel (this is the quickest method). In a "Description" section there is an information about the site status, you can block or unblock your site there. Your site can be also blocked by Updowner admin, but if you feel that your site was blocked unfairly, please conntact us.

• A robots.txt file.
A robots.txt file restricts access to your site by robots that crawl the web. These bots are automated, and before they access pages of a site, they check to see if a robots.txt file exists, and if it prevents them from accessing certain pages. You need a robots.txt file only if your site includes content that you don't want to indexed by bots. If you want to let bots index everything in your site, you don't need a robots.txt file (not even an empty one).
Updownerbot won't crawl pages blocked by robots.txt. In order to use a robots.txt file, you'll need to have access to the root of your domain (if you're not sure, check with your web hoster).

If you want to block Updownerbot from indexing your site type in your robots.txt:
User-agent: Updownerbot
Disallow: /

• Meta tags.
The noindex meta standard is described at http://www.robotstxt.org/meta.html. This method is useful if you don't have root access to your server, as it allows you to control access to your site on a page-by-page basis.

To prevent all robots from indexing your site, place the following meta tag into the <head> section of your index page:

To prevent only Updownerbot from indexing:

How can I edit my site?You can edit some of the content of your site on Updowner. To do that log into your admin panel and click "edit" link nex to your domain name. Each edition must be checked by Updowner admin, this process can take up to 48 houres. Edition status will be visible in the "Description" section.
